Can I use generative AI as a source in my assignment?
Answer
Generative AI platforms are not credible academic sources
Generative AI platforms are not considered credible academic sources.
While these platforms can be very useful throughout the research and writing process, we do not recommend that you use their ideas in your work.
Using the Arden Library for research is always the best strategy, because you will have access to a huge number of relevant academic sources from credible databases and journals.
I would like to use ideas from generative AI in my assignment - how can I do so ethically?
However, if, for some reason, you find that AI-generated information is relevant to your assignment and you would like to include it, you will need to treat the AI platform as any other source.
This means that you will be required to:
- Paraphrase the ideas that AI has generated (write them in your own words)
- Cite the AI platform in your paragraph (and include the prompt, for clarity)
- Add a reference list entry for the AI platform on your reference list
Failing to do the above may put you at risk of committing academic misconduct.
