Getting started with Scopus

Scopus offers comprehensive, curated and trusted data across a wider range of subjects, giving you the clarity and confidence needed to support your search.

With Scopus, you can quickly discover relevant and authoritative publications, identify leading experts, and access reliable data, metrics, and analytical tools. It enables you to monitor research trends, shape your research direction, and set priorities, all within a single database and subscription. 

Scopus is an abstract and citation database. What does it mean?

• An abstract provides a summary of an article.
• A citation acknowledges a source and includes key publication details such as the author(s), title and date. Most Scopus citations link directly to the full-text of the publication available on publishers' platforms.

How to search Scopus

You can search by Documents, Authors and Organisation. Documents include journal articles, book chapters, conference proceedings, articles in press and data papers. 

Basic search

1.  Enter your search terms in the Search Documents box. Scopus searches by default in the article title, abstract and keywords of documents. You can use a drop-down menu to specify in which fields to search.
    
2. You can add additional fields. Each new search field is combined using the Boolean operators AND, OR, and NOT.
    
3. You can also specify a publication date range by selecting Add date range.
