Where can I find resources for Mentoring

Answer

Mentoring Resources

_________________________________________

Mentoring show up in lots of different parts of academic life, supporting early‑career colleagues, improving teaching, managing teams, or simply making sense of our own professional experience.

This guide brings together a selection of books, articles, websites, and multimedia resources available through the library. It’s not meant to be a complete reading list, but a starting point: well‑regarded, research‑informed resources that many academic staff find helpful for CPD, mentoring practice, and educational development.

If you would like help finding resources relevant to a particular role, scheme, or area of practice, you are very welcome to book a one‑to‑one appointment with one of the librarians for personalised support.

Books

The books listed below combine established theory with practical approaches to mentoring, coaching, and reflective practice. They are particularly useful for academic staff involved in mentoring others, leading development activity, or reflecting on their own professional practice.

Journal Articles & Book Chapters

This section brings together research studies, reviews and conceptual papers on mentoring, coaching, feedback and reflective practice. These are useful if you’re interested in the evidence behind mentoring practice, or if you’re engaging with CPD, programme design or educational development work.

Websites

Practical and up‑to‑date resources

These sites offer research‑informed guidance, tools and frameworks that support inclusive and effective mentoring, particularly in institutional settings.

Videos & Podcasts

These resources offer expert insights and practitioner perspectives in a more informal format. They work well for reflective CPD, mentor training, or simply dipping into ideas when time is limited.

Finding more resources

The items in this guide are a starting point, but there is a lot more available through the library portal. Exploring the literature yourself can be a really useful way to find resources that match your role, discipline, or current interests.

How to search

  • Try combining terms using AND, e.g. mentoring AND higher education

  • Remember to search for the synonyms using OR, e.g.  mentorship OR mentor OR mentoring

  • If you get too many results, add a second concept such as professional development or academic staff

  • Use quotation marks for phrases, e.g. “professional development”

If you’re not sure where to start, want help refining a search, or need support finding resources for a specific purpose, the library team is here to help. You are very welcome to get in touch email us at Library@arden.ac.uk or book a one‑to‑one session with a librarian for tailored advice.
