Westlaw eBooks is a collection of practitioner texts covering many areas of law, including company and commercial, employment, contract, EU and international, family and social welfare, human rights, intellectual property, tort and more, linking with Westlaw UK for easy navigation to relevant primary materials. Another key resource for Law students.
Logging in
- If you are already logged in to Arden's single-sign-in (e.g. iLearn), you can access Westlaw UK Books directly through the library's A-Z List of Databases.
- If you have been logged out of the database, you can click on the login button. Click on the Access through OpenAthens. On the Academic Institution page, type “Arden” in the search box. A link will be displayed. Click on the link. The first time, you might be asked to enter your Arden username (your Arden email address). After that, you should go straight into Westlaw UK Books.
How to perform a search in Westlaw eBooks
- Check subscription list
We don't have access to all eBooks available via Westlaw. Scroll down to the bottom of the home page and go to the section labelled Subscription. This shows the eBooks we have access to.
- Browse and select individual titles or search multiple titles together
You can search for any subscribed titles in the search box at the top of the screen.
Alternatively, you can select individual titles to search or select a group of titles by ticking the box next to the title.

Advanced search
- You can enter your search term in the box at the top of the screen or use the advanced search options.
- Enter your search in the appropriate search boxes. Your search will also appear in the search box at the top of the screen.

- You can then view your results and see exactly where your search terms appear within each item.
- On the left-hand side, you can further filter your results to find publications that include your chosen search terms.

- When you select a publication, you see its table of contents on the left-hand side, and as well as the exact location where your search terms appear.

The links on the right-hand side give you several options. You can email, download, or print the paragraph. You can also save it to your folder for future use.
- You can add annotations to any paragraphs if you want to make notes while reading. Once you save an annotation, you can edit or delete it at any time.
