The ScienceDirect Freedom Collection gives you full‑text access to over 2,300 leading academic journals across a wide range of subjects, including:

  • Biology & Life Sciences.
  • Computer Science & Engineering.
  • Medicine & Health Sciences.
  • Psychology & Social Sciences.
  • Business, Economics & Management.
  • Environmental Science.
  • Arts & Humanities.

Because it covers such a broad mix of disciplines, the Freedom Collection is an excellent resource for students studying any subject.

Note: You can find all these resources directly through the main Library Portal search.

 

How do I search ScienceDirect Freedom Collection?

Start by entering your main topics into the search bar. Since this is a dedicated database, your results will consist exclusively of high-quality academic journals.

  • Search boxes: You’ll see three search boxes, you can use just one or combine two or all three for a more focused search.

  • Use Keywords: Keep it simple (e.g. Change Management, anxiety)
  • Search for Phrases: Use quotation marks for exact phrases (e.g., "climate change") to get more relevant results.

Refining your results

On the left-hand side of the results page, you’ll see the Filters panel. This is your toolkit for narrowing down your toolkit for narrowing down your search and finding the most relevant materials. There are many filters available including:

  • Subject: this is a good way of narrowing down the results to a specific topic.
  • Article type: Limit results to research articles, reviews, case studies, and more.
  • Publication Date: Set a custom date range to find the most recent research or target a particular time period.​​​​​

Viewing and Saving results

  1. Check the Description – Under each result in the list, you will see a couple of options including
    • View PDF: Opens the full text of the item (when available) in PDF format. This allows you to read the entire document online or download it for offline use
    • Abstract: understand the  and decide if it meets your needs.

  2. Click the Title – Select the article title from your search results to open its detailed record page.
