Getting started with WorldLII

__________________________________

WorldLII (World Legal Information Institute) is a free online resource that provides access to legal information from around the world. It offers a searchable database of laws, court decisions, treaties, and other legal materials from around the world.

It provides a single search facility for searching across AustLII; BAILII; CanLII; HKLII; LII (Cornell); and PacLII and also includes as part of this searchable collection its own databases not found on other LIIs. These include databases of decisions of international Courts and Tribunals, databases from a number of Asian countries, and databases from South Africa

Students can use WorldLII to:

  • Research laws and cases from different jurisdictions.
  • Compare legal systems globally.
  • Access international treaties and agreements.
  • Explore legal commentary and journals.

It’s especially useful for law students, researchers, and anyone interested in comparative or international law because it brings together resources from many countries in one place.

Basic search

  • Go to WorldLII and enter your search terms in the search box. The system will look for documents that include all the words you typed, so choose your terms carefully to get the most relevant results.

Advanced search

If you need to create more complex searches, use Advanced Search to access additional options and refine your results.

Further guidance
