Getting started with BAILII

BAILII (British and Irish Legal Information Institute) is a free database that contains British and Irish case law and legislation, European Union case law, Law Commission Reports, and other law-related materials from the United Kingdom and Ireland.
How to perform a search in BAILII
Basic search

Go to BAILII and enter your search terms in the search box. The system will look for documents that include all the words you typed, so choose your terms carefully to get the most relevant results.

You can use the drop-down menu to limit your search to a specific jurisdiction, such as: United Kingdom, England and Wales, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Scotland, or Europe. This helps you focus on the most relevant legal materials for your research.
Advanced search
If you need to create more complex searches, use the Advanced Search page to access additional options and refine your results.
