Can Academic Skills Tutors help me understand my module content?
Answer
No, your Academic Skills Tutor is not a subject specialist and has a different role from your lecturer.
If you have questions about module content (for example, theories, concepts, or approaches you are learning about in class), then it's always best to ask your lecturer for help, because they are an expert in your subject.
The Learning Success Hub's Academic Skills Tutors can't answer any module-specific questions, but they can help you develop your academic skills more generally. Some of the skills that ASTs can help you develop include:
- Academic writing
- Understanding the assignment brief
- Critical thinking
- Research and library skills
- Information literacy
- Digital capabilities
- Referencing and academic integrity
You can meet with an AST twice to discuss a specific assignment. Appointments last 45 minutes and are available on campus and online.
You can also join an academic skills workshop online to develop your academic skills in a group setting.
